Credit card fraud explained
Credit card fraud is the illegal act of obtaining goods or services by using another person’s card. There are many ways to carry out credit card fraud, but some of the most common methods are through creating a copy of a card, duplicating the details during a transaction, stealing one’s card and so on.
When paying for goods or services using a credit or debit card it is very important to look out for signs of fraudulent credit card activity, as credit card fraud can have serious implications for the account holder. It is therefore important to ensure that any credit or debit card that you acquire is obtained from a bank or other financial institution that has strong fraud monitoring and identity theft protection schemes in place.
Many banks, whether offshore or onshore, have strict guidelines in place for the avoidance or mitigation of credit card fraud. Some banks require that when a card holder is travelling abroad, the bank is informed prior to travel, in order to avoid any complications when using the card overseas. Many banks and institutions also feature comprehensive tips and advice for protecting consumers against credit card fraud, such as PC protection and safety, as well as advice and guidance on registering your card.
